Can a man see God's face and live? Examining "Contradictions" in the Bible

In Exodus, God says no man shall see Him and live. However, in Genesis, Jacob tells us he saw God face to face, and his life was preserved. Is this not an obvious example of how the Bible contradicts itself? No, it is not.
