Intent: In the Shadows by Krista Wagner is the first novel in the Small Town Secrets series. It is a well written, YA suspense/thriller. Themes of bullying, cliques, and growing up – typical high school problems, are mixed in with a scary stalking situation.
Raylee is an interesting main character. She’s a pastor’s daughter with a strong faith. She’s ready to get through her last two years of high school, but is faced with bullying. I think this part is relatable. Unfortunately, the issue of bullying has never gone away and I think the author did a good job shining light on it.
The suspense was well done. I was invested in figuring out what was going on and cheering for Raylee. I think this was a good read and would recommend it.
