A widows perspective:
You receive a lot of “I understands” after losing a loved one. You might understand the loss of a close friend, the loss of a parent or even the heart drenching loss of your own child. Losing your spouse? You lost your best friend, soul mate, the shoulder that you would be leaning on during the tough times. This is when you have to rely on your close friends, family and even your children for that support to help you through the grief.
When I come across someone who mentions that they are part of the Widows/Widowers club, something changes. They first look at you in disbelief that we only think this only happens to old people. Then the realization happens and a comfort is found that they understand what you have been through and felt.
Years pass, people remarry, and that is a choice to carry on in life, but we are still widows and widowers. So weird to even say that but it is true.
