Azariah son of Hilkiah (1 Chr 9:11; Ezr 7:1). Hilkiah was a high priest at the Jerusalem temple at the time of king Josiah of Judah (640-609 BC). A City of David bulla reads: l’zryhw bn hlqiyhw “Belonging to Azaryahu, son of Hilqiyahu.”

Gallio (Acts 18:12 etc). A portion of the Delphi Inscription from Delphi, Greece, dated January-August 52 AD, reads: “Gallio, my fr[iend] an[d procon]cil.” It supports Luke’s chronology and recording of the events during Paul’s travels.

In “Excavating the Evidence for Jesus,” Titus Kennedy discusses the significant evidence supporting the authenticity of the ossuary which has the inscription: Ya’akov bar Yosef akhui di Yeshua “James, son of Joseph, brother of Jesus.” James was martyred in 62 AD.

42. Earthquake of 33 AD

In gullies of the Wadi Ze’elim, SW Dead Sea, an earthquake seismite layer can be seen that has been assigned to 31 (+/- 4) AD, which history specifies as 33 AD. This earthquake is noted in Matthew 27:50-51 at the time when Jesus was being crucified.

Simon the Cyrenian carried the crossbeam of Jesus (Mark 15:21). The ossuary of his son Alexander was discovered. The inscription pre 70 AD (Heb. Univ. No. 1965) reads: 1. “Alexander the Cyrenian,” 2. “Alexander (son of) Simon.”

Gemariah son of Shaphan (Jeremiah 36:10-12). A son of Shaphan the scribe and servant of king Jehoiakim of Judah (609-598 BC). A City of David bulla reads: lgmryhw [b]n spn “Belonging to Gemaryahu, [so]n of Shaphan.”

122. Eye Witnesses

In Acts 3:15 (Codex Vaticanus), Peter with John say to the crowd concerning Jesus, “You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this.”
