It is said some such doomsday cults (probably parts of a bigger evil system) tries to provoke the return of the Messiah or THEIR Egyptian-pharaonic (?) 'messiah', 'Horus', or 'Antichrist', of some sort by a two-pronged approach: by being "too good" or "too bad". It seems like some form of stubborn desperation - they of all people should know that one cannot force God's hand, it doesn't work that way.
