I struggle with self-worth issues, as most people do. Sometimes it is hard to believe that God loves me or, at least, likes me. Christian teachers have often said that God loves us. But they have also said that we are totally depraved and incapable of goodness. Then there are scriptures like Matthew 5:17-20 where Jesus seems to be saying, "You aren't good enough, and you need to try harder." So, does God love us as we are? Or do we need to good enough for Him first?

@KarlGessler, yes, God is madly in love with you. He loves you as you are and loves you too much to leave you the way you are at the same time. He seeks to perfect you through His love and grace, which can take a lifetime. We are the clay in the potter's hand. He will mold us gradually if we remain open to His grace. Be patient with yourself.
