“Get out the vote” programs are great and please vote, Americans! (By “please vote” I mean please vote dems down the ballot because GOP sucks even more than the dems do, low bar as that is.) The entire world’s fate is in the balance :(
But I get annoyed when the public discourse becomes “lazy citizens who don’t vote” when it’s such a hassle to vote in the US. Especially for racialized citizens.
Hmm.… “I wonder who is to blame for all those fucking hoops you have to go through in order to vote…?” Conservatives ofc :(
(And also as discussed on here… the real politics is what happens in our day-to-day–lives, not just the seconds we are dropping ballets in boxes.)
@Cherishingsparrows2020 It’s correct that I’m not American because it’s way easier to vote here where I am.
no need to be registered
we have national ID laws that suck but at least they mean that everyone has a valid ID
no party that deliberately tries to make it harder
no caging lists
no roll purging
no need for signature verification
plenty of opportunities to vote over a few months, i.e. unlimited early voting
and if there’s an October surprise we can override our previous vote on the last day (but that requires going to a specific location, I did manage to do it that last election).
Being bombarded is part of the problem! Some of the mail is to counteract some of the above BS, while some of the mail is fake!
