Charles Spurgeon’s Mother once wrote to him, saying, “I have often prayed for you to become a Christian, but not that you might become a baptist.”

With characteristic pleasantry, Spurgeon responded, “It is just like the Lord not only to answer prayer but to bestow more than had been asked.”

I’m not a Baptist, but I love that response. We should be able to be light-hearted about our simple differences in the Church.

The world is a happy place when Father’s possess integrity.

Happy Father’s Day! Be the man God made you to be!

“Our practice is the only sure evidence that we are Christians.”

“In the absence of the heavenly quality of life, no experience of eternal wonders is a valid evidence of the birth from above...the new heart is to be defined by its quality, not by its history.”

“It was not so much that I feared Hell as that I feared sin,” —Charles Spurgeon

If we feared sin as much or more than Hell, we would see revival.

“The evidence for Christianity is not the evidences. The evidence for Christianity is a Christian.” —Henry Drummond

Why do Christians always expect the future to be worse than the present?

My Discovery Of Charles Spurgeon journal entry #2

A fellow pastor complained to Charles Spurgeon one day that he was seeing no conversions through his preaching.

Spurgeon feigned surprise and answered,
“But you do not expect conversions every time you preach, do you?”

“Oh, no, of course not!”
Replied the minister.

Spurgeon retorted,
“And that is why you do not have them!”

“If the world abuses me I am a match for that. I begin to like it. It may Fire all its big guns at me, I will not return a single shot, but just store them up and grow rich on the old iron.” —-Charles Spurgeon

I’m starting in on a book about another of the fathers of our faith. I’m familiar with Spurgeon’s name but I know nothing of him directly. I look forward to sharing what I learn about and from the man.
I plan on journalling my discovery of Spurgeon on my Telegram channel.

What about children who are born into poverty, dysfunction, and abuse? If they live and never hear the gospel, would it be better if they had never been born?

Many people justify abortion but arguing that, by aborting (killing) the child, they are protecting them from a miserable existence.

How do you respond?

This is amazingly good news! This could spread like wild-fire! Share it with your Sherriff's!

Personal integrity is the greatest defense against tyranny.

Jesus said that YOU are the light of the world. Shouldn't He have said "I" am the light of the world? What does Jesus expect out of me that He should lay that title at my doorstep? Am I not "desperately wicked", as the scriptures say?

Faith is something we do.

I believe I should get more exercise, but often fail to do so.

Paul clarifies this understanding of faith when he writes: “whatsoever is not of faith is sin.” (Romans 14:23). We expect him to say “whatsoever is not of faith is unbelief.” But for Paul the opposite of faith is sin because his understanding of faith includes obedience. Clearly, the opposite of obedience is sin. —Ken Bailey (Jesus Through Middle Eastern Eyes)

Faith is something we do.

The Law is not a ladder.

Many people believe that God gave the Law, (the Torah), to Israel in order for her to attempt to climb into heaven through good works and discover the vanity of that pursuit. Not so.

The Torah was given as an identity for the people of God. How do you know who are the people of God? The people of God are recognized by how they keep Torah.

How do you recognize the people of God today? They are the people who have the Law of God written on their hearts and manifest in their deeds.

Christ did not come to abolish the Law but to fulfill it. The world needs to see the people of God.
Let your light shine before men.

This was a fun experience. The boys didn't like trying this at first, but they are glad they did it. :)

Do you know the Gospel?

Have you ever wondered why Stephen in Acts 7, given the opportunity to preach to his Jewish community, never once brings up going to heaven, hell, grace vs. works, or any of the usual talking points for a western evangelist?

Nevertheless, Stephen did preach the Gospel when he said, “Look! I can see heaven opened, and the son of man standing at God’s right hand!” (Acts 7:56). With this statement, Stephen declared that Jesus is installed as Lord of the Cosmos, taking His position at the right hand of the Father.

“The Gospel” is the good news of the Lordship of Christ.

"It the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free
While God is marching on!"
