TRUE STORY
I was talking with a dear sister from Sudan the other day and she showed me the scars on her throat and arm. When I asked what they were she told me.
"The scar on my throat was from a hot metal poker that the doctor used to burn my throat to make my cough go away when I got the flu. It took three months for the burn to heal. The scars on my arm are from the burns of a hot iron to keep me from getting malaria. All of us were forced to do this in Sudan. It didn't work, but it didn't matter. It made the people feel like they were doing something to fight the disease and it was expected that everyone pretend it was working."
"Wow that's crazy," I said. "Everybody doing something that they know doesn't work, but makes them feel better about doing it anyway."
"Like wearing a mask?" she replied.
WOW! Puts it all into perspective. She deflated my western pride. In some ways we haven't advanced so much.
My Sudanese friend is a medical doctor and now lives in America.

How bad are things getting in North Korea?
Well according to the North Korean government - 700 orphans have just "volunteered" to work in coal mines.

Joe Biden is China's President. They have can him and his administration. That who put him in office. That is who Joe works for.

“Oh how I love your Law!
It is my meditation all the day.”
Psalm 119:97

Christians are often inconsistent and incoherent when it comes to the role of the Law of God. Is the Law a bad thing or a good thing?

The Law is a gift. The Law provides an identity for the people of God. How do God’s people recognize family? They are the people who keep Torah, the Law.

The Law is a good thing written on our hearts through Jesus. If Jesus lives inside of you, you will love Him. If you love Jesus, you will love the children born of Him. If you love the children of God, we will know that Christ Himself lives inside of you.

Jesus is the Law written on your heart.

“If you love me, you will obey what I command.” —Jesus

The people who do right, who forgive, love, repent, speak truth, remain faithful, etc. who follow the Law of Christ. These fruits mark you as followers of Christ.

Oh, how I love Your Law! It lets me recognize & trust my brothers and sisters.

Let us love the Law of God together.

My brother and I used to lead worship together regularly. It is always a blessing to get together again and sing whatever songs come to mind. Sometimes a song pops up that you haven't heard in years. This was one of those times.

Give Me A Sword

Give me a sword
And let me wield it
Give me a target to strike
Let me be the answer
To someone’s prayers tonight

Give me instruction
Lord, Here I am send me
Let me be the dread of our enemy

Give me a purpose
A mission for my life
Give me the weapons
To obliterate the night
I am so tired of waiting
I want to see the truth win
Hear this prayer of desperation
Come deliver us from sin

Don’t look at the waves. The waves lie and tell you that you will drown. Look at the One who walks on the waves.

My former neighbor, Perry, was the victim of a suicide bomber in Afganistan. He is now paralyzed from the waist down. But God used this tragedy to make Perry into a man. Here is his inspiring story which is still continuing to this day.

Has the Kingdom of God arrived on earth as it is in heaven? Yes. This is the “good news” of the Gospel. But why do we see so much evil and corruption? Surely, if Jesus has set up His Kingdom on earth, we would not see such atrocities anymore....right?

During the first days of the Gospel announcement, Jesus was accused of being in league with the Devil. Imagine that! Jesus Himself is declaring the arrival of God’s kingdom and even casting our demons and healing the sick to prove it, and someone has the audacity to accuse Him of doing the Devil’s work! (See Matthew 12:24-28)

The fact is, whether or not it meets our expectations for how God carries out His purposes, if we believe in Jesus at all, we must believe that the Kingdom of God is here in spite of the continuing presence of evil. It is our trust in the Gospel of the kingdom that makes the evil lose its’ power. But if the evil in the present makes us lose our faith, we will never see the Kingdom.

The Gospel is good news. However, for many church-going people, the Gospel WAS good news. Once upon a time, back when they “got saved” it was good news. Today, joy, peace, comfort, security, approval and all sorts of things are sought from much lesser entities than Christ. Media, Money, Pleasure, insurance, man’s approval, etc. Revival begins as soon as we return to the fountain of living water. Jesus is good news for right now. Jesus is good news TODAY. Every other source of strength is an idol.

Let us worship Jesus as the one and only this morning.

Trust in the sovereignty of God only exists when trust in the love of God exists. If, no matter what our circumstance, we trust that God is good, faithful and present with us, we will never stumble. Our trust in God’s love and Sovereignty will be tested like King Ahaz of Israel.

“When the house of David was told, ‘Syria is in league with Ephraim,’ his heart and the heart of his people shook as the trees of the forrest shake before the wind.”
Isaiah 7:2

God was on the verge of bringing about a great deliverance for Israel but King Ahaz lacked the faith to enjoy that fact. Instead, he pooped his pants. But God brought about the deliverance anyway.

God is sovereign and God is good.

I take great delight in the sovereignty of God.

Sometimes my Calvinist Brother’s and Sisters seem to perceive the Sovereignty of God in a very narrow or negative way (I.e. God is sovereign over who repents and who doesn’t.) But when I think of God’s sovereignty, I think of God’s personal care over me like a good shepherd. The Apostle Paul experiences shepherding like this when he was caught in a storm while imprisoned on a Roman ship. Paul encouraged his frightened ship mates with this prophetic word of comfort:

“Take heart! No lives will be lost—only the ship. Last night, you see, an angel of the God to whom I belong, and whom I worship, stood beside me. ‘Don’t be afraid Paul...God has granted you all your traveling companions.’ So take heart, my friends. I believe God...”
Acts 27:22-23,24-25

The Sovereignty Of God is good news of comfort and peace. God is sovereign over nations and situations today too.

What is the Gospel story? Many people believe that the Gospel story is the story of Jesus coming to earth to show us the way to get to Heaven. A once popular worship chorus put it this way:

“You came from heaven to earth to show the way...from the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky...”

This is not the Gospel story. God didn’t create a good world only to make His main object to show people how to escape it!

The Apostle Paul sums up the end goal of the Gospel this way:

“For He (God) has made known to us his will, according to his purpose which he set forth in Christ as a plan...to unite all things in Him, things in heaven and things on earth.” Ephesians 1:9-10

The plan is to reconcile the creation with the creator. This is why the Gospel is good news for the whole person and the whole planet. All things can be reconciled to God.
