@Knittinggrace interesting thought, but since this a subject that I really enjoy, there are a couple of things to note here. 1. Martin Luther lived more than 300 years before the invention of Communism. 2. Luther endured violence without EVER being violent. Communism has always perpetuated violence. 3. Communism believes in Evolution and no God. Luther - agree with him or not - definitely believed in God. 4. That book cover would have never been used during the days of Luther.
@sinbach @Knittinggrace In direct quotes"Here then is no time for sleeping; no place for patience for mercy. It is the time of the sword, not the day of grace. ...Any peasant who is killed is lost in body and soul and is eternally the devils. But the rulers have a good conscience and a just cause. [They]can thereforesay to God with all assurance of heart:Behold my God, you have appointed me Prince or Lord, of this I can have no doubt. Therefore I will smite and punish as long as my heart beats."
@sinbach @Knittinggrace I would not say he was not a bloody man because he was certainly violent. As one writer stated, He was the equivalent to Hitler.
@sinbach @Knittinggrace I may be wrong on this point but if I can remember right, Martin Luther was an agnostic.
@sinbach @Knittinggrace The only thing on that list that Martin Luther did not have that would match communism would be that he believed in God. Did you know that Karl Marx really liked Martin Luther? Also, Communism has been around since the tower of Babel (The book of Enoch and the Book Of Jasher state that Nimrod wanted all money to go to him then he would distribute it to whoever he thought needed it. He also encouraged violence and killed believers.
@speakthetruth @Knittinggrace there is no doubt that Luther was an anti-semite and wrote detestable things and he did advocated violence against the Jews - NOT as a revolution - but as genocide. The Jews were less than 1% of the population. Martin Luther did not ever use violence against the control of the Catholic Church - that was in charge. He never used violence against the Jews. In his older age, before his death, he wrote how Jews should be treated. it was horrible.
@sinbach You are right on this. And as you said @Knittinggrace we should take a lesson from this.
Just as a note, I was not advocating that Martin Luther was a communist, he still had many things that did not match the communistic ideals.
@speakthetruth @Knittinggrace sorry Fred, that is not Communism
@sinbach @Knittinggrace If Luther was never violent, then why did he advocate the destruction of homes of Jews, The enslavement of Jews, and the murdering of their families?
