Whats the difference between local timeline and federated timeline?

@Jhayward @KarMarJo57 sure :) Local timelines are posts from everyone on dingdash.com who posts publicly. Dingdash is a sub-community of a larger social platform called Mastodon. If we were connected to other communities, we'd be able to see posts from them. Those would appear in the federated timeline.
