Why do religious leaders hate hearing Jesus say to sinners, "Your sins are forgiven?" (Luke 5:17-26, 7:39-50)
@MaineStreams B/c of their works. It's like the older brother of the prodigal son. He hated seeing the grace toward his brother and despised the celebration bc "I worked for you all these years like a slave and never disobeyed you, and what have you given me?" Without the Holy Spirit, religion can make the best of us bitter and weary and lofty too.
@MaineStreams Because it hurts their pride. They think they are so great, then in comes someone else who has the power to do something they can't and they hate it.
