@Coachmombabe @Backtojerusalem I think Hudson Taylor is the first person to come to mind for most protestants. while it is true that Hudson Taylor was among the earliest Protestant missionaries to China he was not the first. The missionary that we are thinking of beat Hudson Taylor by several hundred years.

@Kruselady Marie Munsun from Norway was an amazing missionary. we wrote a children's book about her. but the missionary we have in mind for this question came much much earlier
