S07E001, Lessons from a Rubik's Cube, Endurance

youtu.be/MY4oLLb6wbY

In this first episode of a brand-new season Nathan and Steven explain some of the things that they have learned from solving a Rubik’s Cube.

Endurance is your weekly spiritual workout, whether you think of yourself as a beginner, an intermediate, or advanced!

Steven first learned to solve a Rubik’s Cube during a recent time of illness. Since he didn’t feel fit enough to exercise or study, but felt determined to achieve something, he sat down and had a bash at solving the Rubik’s Cube. After getting nowhere fast, he turned to the internet and learned how to solve the Rubik's Cube.

Through learning to solve the Rubik’s Cube Steven learned three additional lessons. 1) Sometimes we need the help of others. 2) There is value in writing what we learned down. 3) The importance of humility.

He goes into further detail into these less...[READ MORE]...

S06E008, It Is What It Is, Endurance

Steven and Nathan are back with Endurance after a bit of a break, and they are using the expression ‘it is what it is’ to talk about accepting what is.

Endurance is your weekly spiritual workout, whether you think of yourself as a beginner, an intermediate, or advanced!

In this GoDeeper, Steven talks largely about accepting what is. He begins by pointing out that in order to change you have to first accept where you are at, and he gives an example from his own life.

Then he discusses those things in life that don’t change even after much prayer. The apostle Paul had some experience of that, which Steven unpacks from 2 Corinthians 12. The other point that he makes is that we need to accept the past because we definitely can’t change that.

He concludes with a passage of Scripture from Ecclesiastes.

On this episode, we focus on the concept of Godly competition.

Endurance is your weekly spiritual workout, whether you think of yourself as a beginner, an intermediate, or advanced!

Steven begins GoDeeper this week, by giving examples of competition in everyday life. He briefly reminisces over Queen Elizabeth’s entrance to the 2012 Olympic games.

Steven gives us one of his favourite accounts in Scripture, compares competitiveness to pride using an example from his own life, and warns against cheating. He also warns spectators against favouritism.

Ultimately, he challenges us all to be good sports. [READ MORE]

S05E004, Rhythm of the Righteous, Endurance

vimeo.com/733587193

On this episode, we expound the topic of spiritual rhythm.

Endurance is your weekly spiritual workout, whether you think of yourself as a beginner, an intermediate, or advanced!

This week Steven begins GoDeeper by relating our need for rhythm when running to the rhythm we need in our everyday life.

He goes on to draw out some of the things that Romans 12:8-9 commands us to do in order to live at peace with everyone. They include prayer, generosity, rejoicing, service to God and more. Our daily routine or rhythm should include these things listed in Romans 12:8-9.

To conclude this week’s GoDeeper, Steven challenges us to follow the Holy Spirit’s leading to change what we need to in order for us to have rhythm in our lives.

S05E001, I'm Fine! Endurance

vimeo.com/729322413

On this, the first episode of Season 5, we talk about how we use the phrase “I’m fine.”

We had a short break, but we’re back with a newly refined season of Endurance.

Endurance is your weekly spiritual workout, whether you think of yourself as a beginner, an intermediate, or advanced!

Steven begins his first ever GoDeeper by stating the rather obvious fact, that saying you are fine when you are not, is lying.

He goes on to unpack Colossians 3:9, which commands us not to lie to one another (other Christians).

He points out that when one lies about being fine, it is not helpful, because how can anyone help if no one knows that something is wrong. [READ MORE]

Endurance, Do as I Say, Not as I Do, S04E012 (Season Finale)

vimeo.com/713418866

On this the last episode of series 12 we are discussing hypocrisy.

Endurance is your weekly spiritual workout, whether you think of yourself as a beginner, an intermediate, or advanced!

Andy B starts this week’s GoDeeper with a prime example of hypocrisy, in which someone balances precariously on a ladder which is balancing on two tables and says, “don’t do this at home.”

He draws our attention to the Pharisees of the Bible who were very hypocritical, so much so that Jesus called them ‘white-washed tombs’. They knew the law like the backs of their hands but did not live it out.

Endurance, If you always do what you’ve always done… S04E010

vimeo.com/708364808

This week we are discussing taking risks and getting out of your comfort zone.

Endurance is your weekly spiritual workout, whether you think of yourself as a beginner, an intermediate, or advanced!

Andy B unpacks this week’s theme by first defining what we mean by the expression: “If you always do what you’ve always done, you will always get what you’ve always got.”

He further explains taking risks with examples of stepping out in faith from his own life.

GoDo
Steven and Nathan discuss taking risks, especially in view of the remarkable exploits of Benaiah, a well-known character in the Bible.

They explain why not taking risks can be riskier than taking risks; being inside your comfort zone is often more dangerous than being outside your comfort zone.

Endurance, Honestly, I’m Fine, S4E05

youtu.be/shTSYKQWwnE

Endurance is your weekly spiritual workout, whether you think of yourself as a beginner, an intermediate, or advanced!

Andy B begins this week’s theme, “Honestly, I’m fine”, with a reminder of how skilled we can become at hiding our emotions through “Sunday smiles”.

He warns us that sometimes people will ask us how we are without really wanting to know the answer, reminding us to only ask a question if we are willing to hear the response.

Steven and Nathan challenge us to be honest with God and others, especially our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Nathan quotes Ephesians 4:25, which looks at the subject of honesty with fellow believers.

And the two of them discuss Jesus’ perfect example of honesty, as well David, who wrote many of the Psalms, and the way he was honest with God.

Andy B opens up this week’s theme, “Down, But Not Out”, by first reminding us of the fact that everyone has had an experience of being down, but not out.

He unpacks this week’s Scripture verses, Matthew 11:28-30, by explaining what a yoke is in the context of these verses and further explaining its value, as in how oxen are trained using a yoke. In addition, he provides real-life examples of people learning vital skills using the same idea as that of a yoke.

Endurance, Season 4, Episode 2, God Opposes the Proud.

youtu.be/0euhRT7lA4Q

In order to kickstart this week’s theme Andy B gives some real-life examples of inexperienced people thinking they know better than those with experience, reminding us of the downsides of being proud.

He provides reasons for why humility is such a good thing to reach for, and why pride and arrogance are not such good things to reach for.

He talks about truck drivers, fact-checkers, diesel engines, and more…

Nathan and Steven discuss the theme for this week – “God Opposes the Proud.” They point out that it’s a bad idea to be proud, and they discuss a couple of likely scenarios in which we can easily become proud. They also remind us that when we strive for humility we will be honoured.

We have a dehumidifier in our home. Because, in our last home, we had horrendous damp, which led to serious problems with mould.

And we were thankful that we were able to get some great advice about which sort of dehumidifier to buy. And so we bought the type we were advised to buy.

And ours really is superb. You set the humidity level you want in your home, which you can find in the manual, and you switch it on. That’s it – other than emptying the tank when it is full of water. [READ MORE]
