@sarikorpi wow! you watched it! I love you more already! π
You are right, it is probably nothing for a Christian to learn from - but most of the movies I enjoy the most are NOTHING for Christians to learn from.
For me, Rocky is my childhood hero. If you watch Rocky I,II,and III you see the touching story of an underdog. A guy from the streets who is an uneducated bum. He came from nothing and doesn't ever expect to be anything, but then he gets a chance from Apollo Creed. The idea is to humiliate an Italian on America's bicentenial. But with heart, he not only fights on, but eventually becomes best friends with Apollo Creed. Then, this Russian (or Swede? haha) with drugs, strength, and super human boxing skills comes in and kills his best friend, Apollo. Now, it is up to him to face down his biggest fear in memory of his friend - even though he will most likely die in the process.
Come'on! how is that NOT an amazing movie?! It is the 80's at it's best!
@sarikorpi @sinbach What are some titles of your favorite movies?
@Cherishingsparrows2020 @sarikorpi uh oh.... I don't know if it would be good to answer that question.... Ask @bethany - THAT can be a DANGEROUS question to ask me.
BUT i will give you my top two - two movies that most people have seen -
#1. Gladiator
#2. The Notebook
@Cherishingsparrows2020 @sarikorpi I made the mistake of asking @sinbach that question and more than two years later (no exaggeration) I'm still working through his recommendations π
@bethany @Cherishingsparrows2020 @sarikorpi @sinbach ππππππ

and it is spilled all over DD.....
@Cherishingsparrows2020 @sinbach I must say I haven't had too many opportunities since we got children to watch a whole movie, other than kids movies. πSo with our older kids I've liked to watch "Narnia" (especially the Lion and the Witch) but I also found it very amusing to watch the movie "The Incredibles" - it pictured the familylife in such a aptly way! π
Some other movies I've liked:
- "The Chorus"
(It's maybe not that known, so here's the trailer: https://m.imdb.com/video/vi801177881?playlistId=tt0372824&ref_=vp_rv_ap_0 )
- "The courageous"
What's @Cherishingsparrows2020 your favorite movies?
Anyone else who would like to tell their favorite movies?
@sarikorpi @Cherishingsparrows2020 @sinbach
Pilgrim's Progress
Tortured For Christ
Sabina: The Nazi Years'
The Hiding Place (Corrie Ten Boom)
Return to the Hiding Place
These are all great movies and Must-Sees β€οΈ β€οΈ β€οΈ

Here is yet another MUST-SEE:
FREE BURMA RANGERS
I haven't actually seen it but know that it is a MUST-SEE. I know that @sinbach would love it if you haven't already seen it.
@sarikorpi @sinbach "The Chorus" sounds interesting. I want to watch it sometime.
A few of the movies I like are, Ruby Bridges, Final Solution (I don't enjoy the violent scenes, but the over-all message is powerful), Molokai, The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry, Woodlawn, Words By Heart, and The Last Sin Eater. There are others, but it's hard to say which movies are really my favorites. I would need to take more time to think about it before giving you an actual list of favorites.
I recently watched Hidden Figures and liked it a lot (minus some of the vocabulary). It's based on a true and fascinating story.
@Cherishingsparrows2020 @sinbach I used to work as a teacher before I became a home-stay mother, so I watched "the Chorus" back then and could really relate to it and thought it was a film done with a good heart (although it's not a Christian movie).
@Cherishingsparrows2020 @sinbach these movies you listed are all new for me, but I also like to watch historically based movies if they have something deep or powerful to tell.
@Cherishingsparrows2020 @sinbach ...and it's even better if they can build up the faith! Like "the Hiding place" which I saw many years ago.

One last thing to add to my MUST-SEE movie list: TORCHLIGHTERS animated films. Everything TORCHLIGHTERS! These are a series of wonderful animated films produced by The Voice of the Martyrs. They are all wonderful and edifying and are for young and old alike. I LOVE them!!! You can watch them for free here: https://watch.redeemtv.com/torchlighters?utm_source=Torchlighter
@Susan @Cherishingsparrows2020 @sinbach Sounds interesting, thanks!
@Susan @sarikorpi @sinbach I agree with this! Yes! Torchlighters series is wonderful!
@sinbach Thank you for giving me an insight of the movie, it did help me to better understand your point of view.
Yes, I have watched the movie (maybe those other in the series too..?) in my youth, sometimes in the 90's. So when you brought it up and to refresh my memory, I went and read the story from the net. π
I have in my youth watched SO many movies, too many!, and most of them that kind of which I'd rather forget!
I found Jesus (or better said, Jesus found me!) when I was 23-years old. Since then I haven't had the thurst for the kind of movies anymore which don't build up my faith or have something that I can relate too. I have realized my time is too short and valuable - I have already spoiled too much of it! - so now I just want to use it wisely. π
