S05E047, Old v New, Andy B 2 Minute Video

vimeo.com/775813473

“Everything new must be better”. This must be the mantra on anybody involved in selling anything – that the new thing is better than the old because it is newer. But as we’ve seen with new and old version of the same cars this isn’t true.

Also, just because we can doesn’t mean we should. Marmite Easter eggs? No thanks!

When we think about styles of worship in churches, it’s easy to relegate robes and spoken prayers as so old fashioned and, therefore, no longer relevant. And yet robes worn by a minister can be tremendously helpful during a funeral – it helps the minister deal with the grief of a family; dog collars are a great way of assisting your local vicar visit you in hospital. It’s just a helpful bit of uniform! And it keeps you warm in a colder or draughty church: just sayin…[READ MORE]

S02E001, Wedding & Wine – Dave Unleashed

vimeo.com/774736146

Dave the Dog is back with a new series of his very own show. In this first episode, Dave gets up to his usual funny antics, but don’t worry JoJo is there to keep him on track – well, mostly!

In Dave Unleashed you are treated to a Dave the Dog Story Time and Art Time with JoJo. And Dave encourages us to watch the story time again and get our “Art on!”.

Story Time
The first story on this new series of the show we meet Jesus at a Wedding, and he does something amazing – Jesus turns water into wine.

What do you think Dave thinks of that?

Art Time

For art time, JoJo shows us how to make jug spinner. Join Jo in turning a simple picture of a jug into a jug that looks like the jug is holding water one minute and wine the next – how cool is that!

S06004, What Doesn’t Kill You… Endurance

vimeo.com/774707156

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger is the theme for this week’s episode of Endurance.

Endurance is your weekly spiritual workout, whether you think of yourself as a beginner, an intermediate, or advanced!

Go Deeper
In GoDeeper this week, Steven starts off by attempting to educate us on the history of the expression: “What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.” After which he explains that although running strengthens bones, it can be associated with some serious injuries. Steven gives an example of one such injury, relating it to how we can learn from suffering.

Steven also explains 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 as best as he can. He points out the writer of this passage, Paul, likens Christians to fragile clay jars with treasure inside. That treasure is the gospel. Despite all of the suffering that Paul endureD [READ MORE]

S03E004, Firestarter! Family Prayer Time

vimeo.com/774357174

Peter and JoJo continue to encourage us to pray as a family by using prayers found in the Bible. In this episode, Peter and Jo have found another powerful prayer, this time from the famous prophet Elijah which can be found in 1 Kings 18:36-37 – it’s a real Firestarter!

Peter reads out this prayer: ““Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.”

Peter and Jo encourage us to use Elijah’s direct and succinct prayer by praying it out loud in full or using it as a sort of template or both! This prayer encourages us to speak confidently about who God is and to speak to God clearly and specifically about what we need.

A Brief Pause with Andy B, 24.11.22

When the people of Israel heard these requirements, they responded generously… by bringing the first share of their grain, new wine, olive oil, honey, and all the produce of their fields.

S05E046, Wood Piles and God’s Provision, Andy B 2 Minute Video

vimeo.com/773411252

I wonder if you’re anything like me and feel like you spend so long praying for God to bless you with something, that you miss the moment when God actually blesses you with the very thing you were praying for.

I think part of this is that we are not expectant enough of what God wants to do in our lives. Perhaps we have experienced false teaching about how blessings are always financial (they’re not) and shy away from expecting good things. Expecting God to be some sort of unlimited American Express Card is very wrong. But thinking God of miserly is equally so.

God really does want to bless us with good things! We just need to understand that what God sees as a blessing often takes us a while to accept as such. We allow our feelings to get in the way of good biblical understanding. [READ MORE]

Hey everyone! GREAT NEWS…

Our son Alistair was discharged and came home last night… after EXACTLY 40 days. What a significant number throughout the Bible- symbolizing a time of testing and tribulation and finally triumph with new growth... what we believe God has been doing!

Please continue praying with us — he will have ongoing weekly surgical dilations to stretch out his esophagus until the surgery team sees that his esophagus stays at the right size.

We are thankful for you and your ongoing love and support. We have continued to trust in what Jesus desires and is doing - far more than we could ask or imagine!

S05E045, Giving to God, Cheerfully, Andy B 2 Minute Video

vimeo.com/773409461

Have you ever received a gift that was begrudgingly given? Perhaps it was merely someone who you beat in a game but their ‘well done’ felt more like a knife in the back, rather than a sincere congratulatory statement. It can, so easily, spoil our elation at winning!

Tithing is something we often think as just an Old Testament thing - tithing is simply an old word for ‘tenth’, and tithing is the principle of giving God the first tenth of your harvest, if you’re a farmer, for example. Many people today seem to think that tithing died with Jesus. But that isn’t just not true!

Tithing is giving to God, albeit a specific amount. However, as we can read in the New Testament, tithing was not deleted as a religious act, but merely fulfilled. [READ MORE]

S06003, Giving It Your All, Endurance

vimeo.com/771226681

This week Steven and Nathan focus on “giving it your all” in exercise as well as everyday life.

Endurance is your weekly spiritual workout, whether you think of yourself as a beginner, an intermediate, or advanced!

For GoDeeper this week, Steven explains the need to give all your all, in exercise, as well as in work, education and the like. He then quotes Matthew 22:37 and encourages us to surrender ourselves wholeheartedly to God.

Steven points out that we can’t run flat out all of the time, and in much the same way, we shouldn’t give all of our money and time away. But we should use it all to God’s glory as it says in 1 Corinthians 10:31.

He also encourages us to say no to things we are unable to do, otherwise we run the risk of becoming busybodies. In addition to this, he touches briefly on avoiding distractions.

S03E003, Prayer of Jabez, Family Prayer Time

vimeo.com/772791562

1 Kings 18:36-37

Peter and JoJo continue to encourage us to pray as a family by using prayers found in the Bible. In this episode, Peter and Jo have found a short, but powerful prayer from a guy called Jabez which can be found in 1 Chronicles 4:10.

Peter reads out this prayer: “Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do and keep me from all trouble and pain!”. And as usual Peter and JoJo pray together.

Peter and Jo encourage us to use Jabez’s prayer by praying it out loud in full or using it as a sort of template or both! This prayer gives us the confidence to go boldly to our Father in Heaven to present our requests and seek his guidance and blessings in our lives.

What a day we had yesterday (Sunday)

On the go from 7am, and not home until nearly 11pm, but worth every moment

Started at the PAIS Project (schools mission work) 30th anniversary at it's first [home] church - Wellspring Community Church in Moston, Manchester.

Jo and I met up - after 26 years! - with the Global Director (Paul Gibbs), a fellow PAIS volunteer from my year - 1995-1996, the then pastor and others too (and the new UK directors who just arrived from South Africa).

Over the past 3 decades PAIS workers have reached more than 1 million children with the gospel, on 6 continents, and in 22 countries. It's a great [free] year out to do some missions work!!

Then we went not very far to have tea with Gareth Cottrell - the head of the global Christian radio station we do a show for - Konnect Radio (and cuddle his 6 week old baby)

What a day

We are blessed 😊

Andy B

the two photos in a church are 26 years apart and that's me on the stage in the older photo

Nice CNN. Reading an article on yesterday's night club shooting and I saw this gem.
"Colorado Springs, the state’s second-most populous city with just under 500,000 residents, is home to a number of military bases and is the headquarters for Focus on the Family, the conservative Christian group that says homosexuality and same-sex marriage are sins."

There is such a great hatred of the Church in this world.

"If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before it hated you."

S05E040, Phone a Friend… Andy B 2 Minute Video

vimeo.com/770722748

Have you ever heard the phrase ‘phone a friend’? While it may have been made more widely known by a popular British TV quiz show, I’ve used it and heard it for many years before that. The meaning is fairly simple – when you get stuck, you contact someone who may know more.

We all need people we can talk to – either as some form of a sounding board (I have several people like this who are happy to listen to my Andy B thoughts spilling over) or as someone to whom we make ourselves accountable.

Accountability is hugely important, and a subject for another day: we can’t force people to be made accountable! But we should be allowing ourselves to be made accountable to other people. And it is super important never to exist in a bubble of our own thoughts and feelings. That’s just inviting big and painful trouble: a different perspective can see what we can not. [READ MORE]

S05E041, Remember! Andy B 2 Minute Video

vimeo.com/770779336

There will always be parts of our lives we’d rather forget – those moments when something traumatic happens to us, or those times when we’ve done something that may have ruined the life of someone else, perhaps permanently.

Those moments define us, and they can be moments we’d rather not ever have to remember.

But, having undergone a 15 month of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - for childhood trauma - I find it fascinating that the way to help someone process that trauma is to enable them to relive that trauma, and yet remain in control of that memory they are reliving. That control was lacking, hence the therapy approach.

Those 15 months were incredibly exhausting, but that process of remembering – in a safe environment – meant I could finally move on something I had had no choice over suffering. [READ MORE]

S05E042, Pace Yourself!! Andy B 2 Minute Video

vimeo.com/770799901

If you’re late for work, then rushing like a mad thing is rather a sensible course of action. Of course we shouldn’t break any speed limits doing so! But hanging about and taking our time to drink a second cup of tea isn’t appropriate either!!

There are times in life when we simply need to get a hustle on, to get the job done…and keep our job, perhaps…

As we switch across to some new video editing software, we’re taking our time. Sure, we’re pressing on to make the switch over to the new software but we also, already, have work we are already doing. So, we’re taking our time and doing a little bit more each week the new software, and a little bit less with the old software.

Within a couple of weeks, that process should have been completed.

There’s a phrase that goes a bit like this: slow is smooth, smooth is fast. The basic point is [READ MORE]

It’s easy to see all the gaps and fill them up. If it’s a dam, great. That same finger shoving effort may not be quite as helpful if it’s a colander you’re filling the holes in, while you’re trying to strain some cauliflower from the water it was just boiled in - for your dinner!

Context, as ever, matters!

We can treat our diaries, and our time, a little like this – we can fill every second available, and leave no spare capacity (or room for other people, or room for God).

I once chatted with a minister in a church. He was pretty new, and his immaturity was sadly all too easily on display as he talked about how important he was, and why his diary was so very full all the time. [READ MORE]
