For the record: Hate is not a crime. Hate often leads to crimes but emotion is not a crime. Restricting freedom of thought, opinion, and speech is a crime. Just finished reading “John Newton: from disgrace to amazing grace” by Jonathan Aitken. Best biography on John Newton I’ve read.

He’s not as well known today (at least in USA & UK) as he use to be. So here’s a brief overview of his testimony:

He was raised in a christian home, but became a rebellious youth. He coursed, drank too much, was cruel, sexually immoral, and wound up in the slave trade (and was even briefly “a slave to slaves”). But God got a hold of him and turned his life completely around. He became a devoted husband, popular Anglican pastor (with evangelical tendencies), well known author of books and hymns ( “Amazing Grace” is still the most recorded hymn), an abolitionist, and mentor to William Wilberforce (who lead the political campaign to abolish slavery in England).

I encourage you to read more more about him (especially if this is the first you’ve heard about him). And I highly recommend this book as a way to do that.
