If you think of a spring, they’re fitted everywhere! From DVD players to cars, from bicycle derailleurs to pens and staplers, from watches to door handles!

On my bike, the part I fitted has a huge spring which forces the derailleur to be pushed away from the centre of the wheel. When you press the gear lever, it allows that spring to relax, jus a littler bit – a very set amount – and your chain is put on a lower gear.

The one I bought does exactly this. But in order to fit (the lazy way) I had to remove a couple of small bolts so I could save myself removing the chain just so I could fit the new part to my bike.

Unfortunately, the grip I had on it slipped, and the spring did it’s job of bringing the derailleur into it’s more natural position...............

And it was going so well - exploring somewhere completely new, and some beautiful weather to boot

Two puncture repairs later and I had to resort to putting my Kevlar puncture prevention strip underneath the inner tube, against the wheel....my newly fitted rear wheel was missing the protective strip that sits against the wheel, and my inner tube now has regularly spaced holes from the recesses for the spokes...

Oh well, I've got the wheel strip from my last wheel and a spare inner tube

Still... frustrated I made such a dumb mistake! And that I had to cut short my ride, just to crawl home.

@sinbach not hard to remember that you mentioned Samsung - I'm using my third Samsung phone right now. But I don't have a brain like Rain Man, so I had to look up the right episode in the pod. 🤣

Yes, Samsung is the phone that I recommend because it is NOT made in China - unlike iPhone, HOWEVER the operation platform of Android is just as likely to compromise. There are other platforms out there, but nothing yet that is as useable that I would recommend. Because of Operation Black Trumpet and the ability to side-load programs, our team recommends Android software and NOT Apple.
