The Hazard of Preaching:

"The hazard of preaching is that sometimes The Lord requires us to swallow our own texts!"

Corrie Ten Boom at 9m:16s into this lovely video. I can't find who posted it here earlier today, but thank you!

I am hungry to hear from, learn from, stand together with my brothers and sisters who live with persecution daily. Yet I am beginning to understand some reasons why you might not want to talk about it much. I would like to understand more about that as well.

There's not the persecuted church, and the free church: we are all plain & simple, the body of Christ, One body, under Him.

In the early days of arriving in Somalia, several decades ago, an American Missionary says this:

"I am beginning to see that evil has never stopped doing what evil does, but I am also beginning to see that God has never stopped doing what God does".

She was already married 5 times and shacked-up with another man! This woman was really thirsty, but she had been drinking from the wrong wells. One day, The Well that would quench her thirst forever sought her this time. Jesus, not holding her sins against her, transformed her in an instant!
She ran to tell all in her village, leaving her water jar behind, because now, out of her belly flowed living waters. She no longer needed it! She had become the well!

Will we ever hear the full story? When will these high profile social media platforms actually use their influence to share truth instead of hiding it? Probably never! They won’t but DingDash certainly will 🙏🏻

@erdenpilger you are so right. I 100% agree. As I read the scriptures, there are two godly types of righteousness, and they are vitally different. One is our righteousness towards God. This is what you refer to. It is central to salvation.

The second (to which Titus refers in my original Ding) is impossible without the first, and should flow out as a fruit from the first, as outward evidence of it. This is behavioural & heart righteousness, otherwise known as sanctification or good works.

"Any over-valued comfort will soon prove to be our trouble"

Thomas Manton

A taste of 17th Century preaching I'm listening to on youtube:

It is expedient sometimes that God should displease his people for their advantage. The Shepherd must chose the pasture for the sheep, whether bare or full-grown. The child is not to be governed by his own fancy, but the father’s discretion, nor the sick man by his appetite, but by the Physician’s skill.
(John 16:6-7)

Psalm 131:2

By my reckoning, love is not leaving people in their bad lifestyle choices, but helping them out; accepting them as they are, but still showing them the Way!

In this era of endless bad news and hate better stay focused on this...
Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Deadly plagues hit the Roman Empire. When they did, Early Christians responded differently than the pagans and became known for their courage.

What will we be known for?

@davidbolton I found this blog really helpful. Thank you, brother. I am a greenwoodworker, and I love kindling fires, so this blog is a perfect analogy for me. I will think about thanksgiving & praise when I am chopping kindling from now on!

Paul to Titus:

“This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to MAINTAIN GOOD WORKS. These things are good and profitable unto men.
9 But AVOID FOOLISH QUESTIONS, and GENEALOGIES, and CONTENTIONS, and STRIVINGS ABOUT THE LAW; for they are unprofitable and vain.” (Titus 3:8-9, capitalisation mine).

I find this challenging: What are the 'good works' God would have me concentrate & be consistent with today?

@josue Praying for Bolivia now, Brother. This I why I really joined DingDash, to connect with brothers and sisters worldwide for fellowship, to learn from you, and to pray for one another.

You can feel the spiritual battle, please pray for us.

I don't know about you, but I easily lose perspective. I find that I can fall out with someone who believes almost exactly the same as me, but may differ on a relatively minor point.

I have recently reflected on the benefit of taking a step back and ask myself "What am I about to lose by parting company with the other person? And over what really? Of course the issue in hand seems vital now, but how will it look in 10 years? Will I be able it to explain to myself, let alone others?
